How we handle missing data

Where a source does not cover a market, we record the gap and say Data unavailable — with the reason. We never substitute an estimate for a measurement, and a missing figure is never shown as zero.

Every displayed figure is labelled as observed (directly sourced), calculated (derived from observed data), or interpretation (our reading of the evidence). Those are different things, and the interface keeps them apart.
